18TH MAY: Ludlow, who tied up the Mercian Premier league title on Wednesday with a 4-0 win in the decider at Morda Utd, were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Hodnet on Saturday while bottom club, Dawley Town left themselves with an outside chance of climbing out of last position with a 5-0 thumping of Allscott with two goals each from Gregg Corbett and Neil Brasenell and another from Dan Martin. They now need to beat champions, Ludlow in the last game of the season to climb above Weston Rhyn. Telford Juniors moved into second place with a 2-1 win at Wellington Amateurs Reserves.
The First Division league title will be decided on Thursday when Madeley Sports entertain Clee Hill knowing three points will snatch the league from Wroxeter Rovers who won their 18th match in 17 to finally overhaul Prees at the top. Their thrilling 3-2 win at Brown Clee will all come to nothing, though, if Madeley Sports claim that victory in midweek. Madeley Sports set up the exciting climax with a 4-0 win at Shawbury Utd Reserves with Shaub Davies, Luke Hevingham and Jayme Duncan-Emery with two on target. Elsewhere there were two 9-0 wins in the First Division with Nick Higgs scoring seven in Rock Rovers' demolition of Bishops Castle and Craig Evans contributing four of Hopesgate's total as they finished the season with a flourish at home to Wrockwardine Wood Juniors. Meole Brace closed their campaign with a 2-2 draw at home to Oswestry Boys Club.
There were more than fifty goals in just six Second Division matches as many teams seemed to have mentally started their holidays on Saturday. The most notable result was Athletico Broseley's 15-2 win at home to Spalaig Britannia. AFC Wellington moved into the runners up spot with a 6-1 win at Highley Miners Welfare ahead of Oakengates Athletic who went down 3-2 at home to Claverley. Market Drayton Tigers closed their season with a 2-1 win at Albrighton Juniors. Champions, Childs Ercall signed off with an emphatic 8-3 defeat of Impact Utd, their 27th win of the season while Wrockwardine Wood and Randlay 2012 shared eight goals in their mid-table clash.
