North Hants May Cup Semi Final

D.C.U.K. made their exit from the North Hants May Cup at the Semi Final stage when they were beaten 3-1 on their trip to Broughton. Although the Andover League club are through to the Final of the Hampshire A Cup, Ben Nicholls felt thy were an ordinary side and had they had their full side on view would have won easily. He felt although missing key players Gordon Birch and Shaun Searle, they played well enough and after a goal less first half took the lead from a penalty in the 55th minute. It was for a dubious looking hand ball, but Nicholls duly put away the spot kick. In the 70th Broughton drew level from a free header and then in the 80th Trent Barrington committed a foul in the box and the penalty was converted. DC pressed to level, but caught on the break in the closing stages the third goal came.
Broughton will now play Twentyten in the Final at Whitchurch on Wednesday 27th April KO 7.30 p.m.

Basingstoke Saturday League

Division One.

Twentyten has just two matches left to play, against DCUK and Tadley Calleva A and they needed to beat Hook to make sure their title hopes were to be achieved. They traveled to play Hook and came away with a 1-1 draw and this now means if Hook wins all o f their remaining six matches, the title will be theirs. Twentyten had a good start and took the lead after fifteen minutes with a well worked goal. Joe Hill found Joe Osborne with a good ball, he played through to James Arnold who went on to beat keeper Greg Archer. Hook soon equalized when James Westwood put away a half volley from the Andy Parker pass. Although Hook had chances through Westwood and Dan Mouridian , the two sides cancelled each other out, although Arnold and Hill both could have done better in the second half with theirs. A strong claim for a penalty to Twentyten when Hill was through and was brought down by Archer, were waved away, as Archer may have got a touch.

Bounty United has a cup final to play on Saturday, the Peter Raynbird Cup at Winklebury against D.C.U. K. but this was not good preparation as they lost 4-2 Against AFC Aldermaston Reserves. It was great day for the Aldermaston striker Michael Porter who scored all four of the Aldermaston goals. It was Bounty who took the lead after just five minute when Alex Izzo scored following a corner kick. The equalizer came after 25 minutes when Porter sprang the offside trap following a through ball from Rio Francis. They then took the lead with a great half volley from Porter from a Matt Coddington free kick. Bounty came back with their second to level with a free header from Izzo, but in the last fifteen minutes Aldermaston struck twice. His hat trick was completed after beating the keeper Richard Vinn in a one on one and his fourth following another error by the keeper who mis-kicked a clearance and Izzo nodded in his fourth.

Division Two

Herriard Sports march on to the Division Two title that almost certainly looks to be theirs following their 14th win. Longdog Soldiers did give them a decent challenge, but in the end Craig Lewington’s team look just too good for this division. Chris Dobbie opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a 20 yard free kick that proved too good for keeper Jake Barnes. This was his 39th goal of the season. In the 30th a cross field pass from Chris Smith was picked up on the half was line by Stuart Minton, who ran with the ball 50 yards, cut in and made it 2-0. Soldiers held out until the 70th when Dobbie hooked in a Matt Goodman free kick and Sam Cato played Weber through to make it 4-0. Mark White scored a late consolation for Soldiers.

Basingstoke Labour Club keeps on track for promotion with a 2-1 win against Winklebury Wizards, not easy as both sides finished with ten men. Wizards at times looked the more positive side and Manager Harry Grainger was disappointed not to have got something from the game. In the 25th minute Labour took the lead when Josh Dickens scored following a pass from Gavin Harkness. In the 35th a shot from Scott Large hit Nathan Read on the arm, a penalty was given and Liam Grainger converted. In the 64th the cross from Jack Barlow was too good for the keeper to reach and Mark West nodded into the empty net. In the 80th minute a reckless tackle by Jack Arthur on Mark Thorpe led to a straight red for the Wizards defender and with all subs used Labour also finished with ten men. Charlie Coughion was foiled late on with a fine save and at the other end the Labour keeper Adam Burridge pulled off a save that meant Labour kept all three points.


AFC Berg won 3-0 against bottom of the table Chineham. Dan Deadman gave them a 21st minute lead and Ashley Burchett extended it in the 25th when the defence failed to clear a cross from Mason Saunders. Chineham had a shot cleared off the line as a chance was created just before half time and other chances came for Eugene Carrasco but wasted and Ashley Russell also went close. With four minutes left Saunders made sure of the points with the third following a cross from Kieran Alleyne.

Darren Heath had a good game in goal for AFC Aldermaston A in their 1-1 draw with Twentyten Reserves. He was however beaten in the tenth minute when Dan Hancock beat him with a left footed drive and he later had a goal disallowed as they tested Heath plenty in the next 30 minutes, one particularly fine save when Danny Vallance looked to have scored.. In the 32nd minute however came the equalizer when new signing Adam Perrett scored with a sweet shot in off the underside of the bar. Either side could have taken maximum points, but Twentyten had the best chance when awarded a penalty, but hero Heath came to their rescue and pulled off a good save.
