Title race stays undecided
Woodley Saints prevented University of Portsmouth from being declared League champions on Sunday 3 April but they will be disappointed not to have held onto all 3 points.
A much depleted Uni side made the trip to Woodley with no substitutes and were dealt an early blow when Woodley's Serena Hickman beat the offside trap on 12 mins to slot home.
20 minutes later it could have been all over, when Amie Benton won a penalty for Saints, which Hickman stepped up for. She hit the ball cleanly but too close to the keeper who parried the first striker and then assisted by her defenders who cleared their lines well.
With no changes in personnel, the 2nd half started with Uni of Portsmouth getting more chances and Saints keeper Louise Williamson kept her side in the match for the first 15 mins.
With half an hour left to go Uni of Portsmouth got their equaliser but despite chances at both ends, neither team could make the breakthrough and the match finished 1-1.
Saints go to Maidenhead on Thursday 7 April at 7.30pm needing 3 points to stay in the hunt for the championship, whilst Uni of Portsmouth need just 1 point to make them uncatchable.
