Maghull registered their eleventh win of the season, and opened up a seven-point lead at the top of Division One.

Maghull registered their eleventh win of the season, and opened up a seven-point lead at the top of the Go2Day West Cheshire League's Division One, after efforts from Harrison Worden and Darren Brannigan secured a 2-0 victory over Capenhurst Villa while fourth placed FC Bootle, stayed in contention, when goals from Jacob Jones, Jay Winsor, Chris Lowe and Isaac Jones anchored their side to a 4-0 eclipse of Marshalls, WRITES ERNIE MCDONALD.
Reigning champions, Mersey Royal, scored through Dillon Thomas but capitulated 4-1 at Rainhill Town, who sealed the issue thanks to efforts from Eddie Hawthorne (2) Colm Lynch and Will Grace and despite a goal from Louis Moss, Chester Nomads' poor start to the season continued, after they went down 2-1 to replies from Aintree Villa's Sam Dahl and Jamie Alty. Helsby, with goals from Lee Guirado (2) and Sonny Dean, bounced back from the previous week's shock Cheshire Cup, exit to edge a 3-2 decision over Vauxhall Motors Res., who had Will Mountfield and Luke Walker in response.
Division Two leaders, South Liverpool Res. maintained their unbeaten record, and went three points clear at the top, when brothers Theo and Thomas Cokewright found the net in Saturday's 2-0 win against Maghull Res. Hooton leapfrogged Mallaby into second place, after goals from Steve Duckers (2) Liam Smith and Nathan Saunders sparked a 4-0 result over Huyton Rovers. Mallaby's first league defeat of the season was inflicted by visitors Runcorn Sports, goals either side of the half from Steve Rothwell and Kier Fenlon earning the visitors a deserved 2-0 win. Brendon Ndlovu netted for Marshalls Res. but it was Higher Bebington Kelma who profited, Charlie Fearon, Andy Noonan, Josh Griffiths and Tom Byrne sharing the goals in a 4-1 triumph. Elsewhere, Josh Chu bagged both goals for West Kirby at Mossley Hill Ath. U23's but his contribution proved to be in vain, the hosts posting a 3-2 win, courtesy of efforts from Adil Mohammed, Aher Duncan and Hakeem Munns.
Efforts from Callum Thompson, Liam Powell and Louis Fox assured Great Sutton of a share of the spoils against current Division Three pacesetters, FC Kirkby, who yet still increased their advantage at the top to seven points, but there was a damaging blow to third placed Chester Nomads Res.' promotion hopes, after they netted via Connor Davies but conceded 2-1 to replies from Runcorn Sports Res.' Stephen Butler and Jake Hill. Respective marksmen in Heswall U23's 3-3 nail biter with Ellesmere Port Town Res. U23's were Aaron Baird, Brad Geer, Shay Roberts, Darius Woolridge (2) and Tom Welch.
Saturday's Youth Division action saw South Liverpool erode Maghull B's lead at the top to three points with two games in hand, when efforts from Steve Swindells and Owen Thompson clinched a 2-0 victory over third placed challengers, AFC Knowsley. Runcorn Linnets suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of visitors, Mossley Hill Ath., but it was celebration time for West Kirby Utd. who emerged 5-3 victors against local rivals, Neston Nomads, thanks to strikes from Lewis Greenhalgh (2) Tom Barratt, Dan Osunjmi and an own goal. Mike Harrison, Jack Coll and Lucas Robertswood netted Nomads' consolations. On the District scene, it was commiserations to South Sefton Borough, who had Matty Rennie on target but lost 4-1 at Sefton Ath. in an LCFA Challenge Cup first round clash, and it was an early exit also for
Aintree Villa Res. who scored through Alex Hughes before losing 5-1 at AFC Knowsley U23's in the LCFA Junior Cup first round.
