Round up 08 October 2011

CARLSBERG WEST CHESHIRE AFL
MATCH ROUND UP W/E 8th JANUARY 2011

It was quarter finals day of the Cheshire Amateur Cup and success came the way of both Ashville and West Kirby and in doing so they ended the interest of Cheshire Association League clubs in the competition/ Ashville dominated from start to finish against Northwich Villa on a testing Villa Park pitch. Chris Barrow capitalized on a weak back pass in the 19th minute to give Ashville the lead and the impressive Dave Rudge doubled the advantage before the break following a neat passing movement. It was the same player who was to complete a 4-0 victory later in the game this after Tim Bigland had earlier netted from the penalty spot. Ashville’s opponents in the semi finals will be holders West Kirby who progressed thanks to a 2nd half double by Dave Forbes at the home of Middlewich Athletic who were unable to muster a reply. There was less joy for Ellesmere Port who like neighbours Vauxhall Motors Reserves at an earlier stage lost out to Manchester League outfit Old Altrinchamians in a penalty shoot-out after the sides had drawn 1-1. Bronze Socials tie at Lancs and Cheshire league side Spurley Hey was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
West Kirby [Josh Dures,2, Chris McGinn] regained Division 1 top spot on Bank Holiday Monday as a result of their 3-1 defeat of Ellesmere Port [Peter McNulty] and remain there after 2nd placed Maghull’s failure to gain reward from Saturday’s visit to Heswall. The hosts went in front thanks to Lee Cairns and after Tom Foley had leveled for Maghull Jamie Kenyon settled a close contest in Heswall’s favour with 5 minutes remaining. Jon Paul Stanhope was a hat trick hero for Newton as they triumphed by the odd goal in 5 at Marine Reserves [Tom Amoss, Gary Jones] while Phil Coffin set up Sean Keevey and also scored one himself as their 1st half strikes were enough to secure a 2-0 success for Vauxhall Motors Reserves at Upton AA. Meanwhile Blacon YC remain rooted to the bottom having succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at Willaston who had Shaun Turner and Tom Murphy posting.
Chester Nomads strengthened their position at the top of Division 2 when a Kieran Smith double was added to by Joel Worral as they overcame hosts West Kirby Reserves [Paul Stevenson] 3-1. New Brighton kept up the pressure as Kyle Birch, Paul Howell and Jay Clare found the net in their 3-1 defeat of Beb Athletic who replied through Graham Carvell. Mossley Hill Athletic [Yusuf Malik, Simon Ellison] had to settle for a share of the spoils from their visit to Richmond Raith Rovers [Rob Madine, Paul Goothwaite] while 2 own goals counted for Hale as they also drew 2-2 at Maghull Reserves [Steve Carroll, Gedd Forde]. Mallaby failed to make home advantage count as they went down 2-0 to Prescott Cables Reserves who netted through Sean Callard and Steve Tames.
Division 3 leaders Runcorn Linnets Reserves needed extra time before winning out 4-3 in the Complete Focus Shield 2nd round tie at Beb Athletic Reserves. Jack Webb,2, Joe Elson and Dave Jolley were the victor’s marksmen as Wayne Hulse, Dayne Murphy and Shaun Cunliff netted for the hosts. Manor Athletic’s Division 3 promotion push continues apace their latest success being a 2-0 win at Merseyside Police where Chris Tolley and Chris McGowan did the damage. Mossley Hill Athletic Reserves and New Brighton Reserves fought out a goalless encounter but in contrast the net was found 8 times at Mersey Royal where Upton AA Reserves emerged as 5-3 victors.
In the Liverpool County FA Youth Cup REMYCA had 2 goal men in Kieron Davidson and Connor Webb as they enjoyed a 6-2 success at Old Xaverians but Widnes Town [Aaron McGarvey] bowed out of the competition having lost 4-1 to Mags.
