Basingstoke & District League Match Reports from Sunday 6th January, By Tony Spencer.
Soldiers Return travelled to Winchester to play the Rising Sun in the Hampshire Sunday Intermediate Cup, writes Tony Spencer, returning victorious following a stunning 2-6 result. Soldier's goal scorers were Jamie Galpin, Warren Hill, Luke Morgan, Craig Williamson, and substitute Andrew Darmody converted a penalty.
The other two ties involving Basingstoke sides went to penalties. Republic of Chineham played away against CJ Glass of the Gosport, Fareham & Solent League. The hosts have been runners up twice and champions three times in the last five years of Division One A and are currently second with only one defeat in their previous 10 games. After finishing 2-2 Republic won 2-3 on penalties, their fourth win on the trot.
Chineham entertained City of Portsmouth Division 1 side AFC Southdowns in an evenly matched tie, Ashley Perryman equalising after being 0-1 down at the interval. Chineham went through 3-1 on penalties, the home keeper saving 3 spot kicks and one effort missed the target.
AFC Basing narrowly lost 0-1 to Hedge End Club in the delayed round 3 of the Hampshire Sunday Junior A Cup.
In the 4th round of the Hampshire Sunday Junior A Cup Overton United lost 1-3 to Cobden, who are unbeaten in Division 2 of the Meon Valley Sunday League.
North Warnborough withdrew from the Basingstoke Kelvin Cup, unable to raise a side to travel to Abbots Ann Eagles.
Brookvale United chalked up their first success of the season with a 4-3 Division 1 win over Eastrop Eagles. A Liam Coppi cross found Adam Aimable at the back post to volley home at full stretch a fantastic opener for Brookvale United. Eagles bounced back with two Nathan Bennis strikes for a 1-2 lead. Aimable popped up again for the hosts before half time to level the game at 2-2, with a header following an Ash Peck free kick. Eagles went ahead again in the second half but the same Aimable and Peck combo struck again as Aimable fired home a far post header to once again draw 'Vale level at 3-3 with just a quarter of an hour to play. In the 87th minute a penalty was awarded as Aimable was fouled in the box and he duly stepped up to convert the spot kick to give United their first win in their history. They managed to hold on for the remaining few minutes to see out the match.
Tadley Tigers came from behind against Team FC to win 2-1. Matt Goodenough levelled the score in the second half and Kieron Farmer settled the match from the penalty spot. This was Team's first away defeat since the opening day of the season.
Basingstoke Saints went ahead twice in the first half against Division 2 leaders Camrose Social, thanks to a Liam James first half brace. However, James was injured in what was a combative match throughout, denting Saints' firepower. Adam Butler levelled from a cross for Camrose Social's first goal, and Matt Foreman's equaliser made it 2-2 at half-time. Ryan Lupton scored the winner in the second half for Camrose Social for 2-3, giving them four wins on the trot.
The Kempshott against Chineham Reserves match ended in a 3-3 draw. Kempshott's goals from Cody Burns and a Luke Ambrose brace. Tyler Andrews, Alex Izzo and Clayton Deakin netted for the visitors.
Shallow End enjoyed a great start to 2019 after winning comfortably against South Ham Saints. Right from the off, Shallow End we’re on top, creating chances. The scoring was opened when Liam Rump found Callum Elson with his cross who volleyed it into the bottom corner. Elson has his second of the game after running onto a through ball putting it passed the keeper.
Just before Half time Shallow End were awarded a free kick 20 yards out, Rump stepped up and converted, bending it around the wall to make it 3 - 0.
The goal of the game, started in defence and was played between the ranks, from midfield to attack, where Rump had an easy tap in to seal the 3 points. A brilliant team goal and performance!
