Cy Sullivan, Peter Charles and Thomas Taaffe shared the goals in Saturday's 3-1 victory over fifth placed Rainhill Town Res., who had Harry Summerford in reply, WRITES ERNIE MCDONALD.
Helsby Res. leapfrogged Rainhill into fourth placed after efforts from Sam Stephens (2) Adam Harding (2) Ant Collings and Adam Bramwell anchored their side to a 6-1 result over Poulton Vics who hit back via Jude Keith, while goals from Ollie Welch and Lewis Jones were enough, as Ellesmere Port Town U23's eclipsed Frodsham Park JFC 2-0. Jake Hill netted for Runcorn Sports Res. but it was Heswall U23's who profited, replies from James Hawkins and Liam Grealis securing a 2-1 win for the hosts. Likewise, Max Percival scored for Groves Ath. who went down 2-1 to replies from Capenhurst Villa R.es.' Harley Morris and Tom Sixsmith.
The Division One programme was restricted to just one fixture, due to players involvement in the Inter League Cup, but that failed to deter reigning champions, Mersey Royal, from posting a 4-0 victory over Ashville Res., courtesy of a goal apiece from Ryan Coles, Tom Haynes, Ben Ryan and Louis Duncan which elevated Glynn Normans' outfit to seventh place in the table.
Saturday's Division Two action saw Hooton forfeit two points in the race for promotion, following a 2-2 stalemate with Higher Bebington Kelma, who led 2-1, with 10 minutes remaining, thanks to efforts from Andy Noonan and Jake Barnard. Joel Whalley bagged his second goal of the game to salvage a point for the Hoot. Aintree Villa Res. had cause for celebration when goals from Matt Wardell and Aiden Webb set up a welcome 2-0 decision over West Kirby.
In the Youth Division, a solitary effort from Jack Gordon proved sufficient, as third placed challengers, Cammell Laird 1907 beat Maghull 1-0 and moved to within two points of leaders Maghull B with a game in hand. Will Fitzgerald, Nate Jones and Dan Steele found the net for Neston Nomads who overcame Runcorn Linnets 3-2. Gabe Connor and Jack Ball netted Linnets' consolations. The West Cheshire League's representative side were denied further involvement in the Inter League Cup after suffering a 6-0 defeat at the hands of the Manchester League.
On the domestic cup scene, Runcorn Sports, with goals from Reece Jones, Reece Dwyer and James Pye overcame Neston Nomads in the Haworth & Gallagher Bowl second round, but it was the end of the road for Chester Nomads Res, who lost 4-0 at Upton Juniors JFC in the Chester & District FA Challenge Cup.
A four goal salvo from Jason Bull was supplemented by further efforts from Dean Wylde, Lewis Handford and Mike Mocha, as West Kirby Res. romped home 7-0 against Great Sutton in the West Cheshire Shield 2nd round. Successful West Cheshire clubs in the LCFA Saturday Junior Cup 2nd round included Mossley Hill Ath. U23's, Huyton Rovers and Marshalls Res. On target for Mossley in their 3-2 win at Eagle JFC were Asher Duncan, Alex Northover and Leo Rynolds while Huyton's passage was secured after Eddie Johnson and Lee Owens struck in the 2-0 victory over Liobians. Marshalls Res.' 4-0 win at Rainhill Town YD was confirmed by efforts from Sam Bowsie, Josh Lavender, Joe Birkett and Alfie Williams but on the minus side, despite a goal from Shaun Sandison, Maghull Res. went down 2-1 at home to Abbey Road Veterans.
Free scoring Athletico Blues negotiated their LCFA Saturday Youth Cup 2nd round hurdle in style, thanks to a 8-0 triumph at Formby Community U17's. Kieran Law (2) Luke Parry (2) Finnbar McGovern, Jake Goulding and Thomas Yates were the scorers and they were joined by South Liverpool, who had Ellis Jago (2) and Callum Grimes on the mark in Saturday's 3-2 victory over Atlantic U17 Silver. Further success was achieved by Maghull B who savoured a 6-0 result over Britannia U17, inspired by doubles from Nathan Moffitt and Adam Ross. The scoreline was completed by further goals from Jack Jenkinson and Adam Ralph. Kyle Reeman scored both goals for Litherland Remyca who lost 7-2 to Town Green U18's and it was a similar tale of woe for Mossley Hill Ath. who scored through Ryan Fitzpatrick and Harry Watt before losing 5-2 to Northern City Juniors.
