Penalties decide two Haworth & Gallagher Ties

MATCH ROUND UP W/E 24.11.12
Saturday saw 2nd round Haworth and Gallagher Bowl ties take place with local rivals Beb Athletic and Manor Athletic coming head to head in a hard fought encounter at Green Lane. Manors early supremacy was rewarded when Andy Kingam forced the ball home following a goal mouth scramble but Beb clawed their way back into the contest and leveled just after the hour mark when a free kick was headed in by Matt Earp. Both sides spurned chances and the game went into extra time but with no added goals it was down to spot kicks which saw Manor emerge as 4-3 victors. Another closely fought encounter witnessed West Kirby Reserves facing Richmond Raith Rovers who drew 1st blood when Anthony Lee struck a superb volley just before the break. Robbie Courtney’s equalizer late in the 2nd half brought on extra time when, with Richmond reduced to 10 men, a Lee Gibson 2nd period strike for Kirby was ruled out and the game finished at 1-1. The resultant penalty shoot-out went the way of Richmond by 4 goals to 1. The other tie to beat the weather saw Maghull Reserves [Farshad Parvas, Dave Hughes, Mick McGinn, Billy Rice] overcame host side Heswall Reserves [Jay Thompson, Lee Dermody] 4-2.
Upton AA’s long serving striker Simon Andrews was a 2 goal hero as his side emerged as extra time winners by the odd goal in 7 in their Cheshire Amateur Cup 3rd round tie at Poynton where Sean Finch and Dinu Maghici also registered. Newton’s tie with Knutsford was again postponed but Ashville bagged a 4th round place when easing out Malpas, 5-1. A superb Leon Jones hat trick led the way which was supplemented by Kyle Kelly and Jay Clare.
Division 1 leaders Cammell Laird Reserves ran out easy 4-0 winners as Jonathon Atkinson, 2, Lewis Morgan and Josh Dunroe netted against visiting Mossley Hill Athletic but much fancied Heswall had to settle for a point as a brace from veteran Chris Adamson was wiped out by Kevin Frankland and Callum Kelly for Southport Trinity. There was another early goal for Chester Nomads [Edd Moss, Kieran Smith, Sam Manton] as they overcame hosts Hale [Sean Wright,2,] by the odd goal in 5, a result that confirmed team boss John Cadwallader as Carlsberg Manager of the Month for November. Mick McGraa’s rich vein of goal scoring form continues and another brace added to a Chris Reilly strike inspired their West Kirby side’s 3-1 success at Marine Reserves [Josh Odukomaya]. A solitary Graeme Davidson strike was enough for Vauxhall Motors Reserves to complete a league double over Christleton and a Jamie Rogers brace was the feature of Blacon YC’s 3-2 win over table trailers Ellesmere Port.
In the only 2nd Division game to take place Mossley Hill Reserves garnered 3 welcome points at the expense of a disappointing Helsby outfit as Phil Duncan,2, and James Hilton found the mark in their 3-0 victory.
A Craig Blackwell treble anchored a 5-0 success for Division 3 leaders Redgate Rovers at Beb Athletic Reserves but, still undefeated, Gateacre [John McGratton, Anthony Reilly] had to be content with a share of the spoils from a 2-2 draw with Chester Nomads Reserves [Mike McCallum, Michele Apollonio]. Widnes Town continue to climb the table after Joe Brizell,2, Paul Cliff, Kyle Ruane and Rob McLean registered in the 5-0 defeat of Christleton Reserves and 3rd placed Belfry overcame Merseyside Police 4-1 with Danny Hart,2, Colin McDonald and Jamie Rainford doing the honours. Kadeem Mekki netted twice and was joined on the score sheet by Dave Ojapah and Danny Bulayima as Marshalls Reserves savoured a comprehensive 4-0 win at Neston Nomads and Sharif Yusuf was a 2 goal man in South Liverpool Reserves 3-1 triumph over Hale Reserves.
In the only Youth Division encounter Custys [Brian Lee,2, Connah Cavanagh] shared 6 goals with Vauxhall Motors [Rhys Brownbill, G. Corlett, Cy Longstaffe].
