Round Up 26 February 2011
Another Friday night deluge of wet weather cut a swathe through Saturdays Carlsberg West Cheshire programme. Only two Division 1 games survived and with their rivals inactive Maghull grabbed the opportunity to leap back to the top of the table after a convincing 4-0 victory over visiting Willaston. Maghulls latest win in their bid for the title was spearheaded by Lee Tynan whose father Larry was a championship winner with Vauxhall Motors in 1986. Tynan hit a sparkling hat trick for the hosts and he was joined on the score sheet by Tom Foley. The win puts Maghull one point ahead of West Kirby at the top with the Seasiders having two games in hand. Lowly Christletons visit to Vauxhall Motors Reserves got off to a flying start when Dan Davies gave them a 2nd minute lead. The Motormen responded by creating and spurning a host of chances throughout the rest of the contest and had to rely on Jordon Brierleys 63rd minute spot kick to earn them a point from a 1-1 draw.
The race for the Division 2 promotion places is hotting up and it was success all the way for the top 5 clubs. Leaders Ashville went a goal down in the 14th minute to a superb Ian Hobday strike for West Kirby Reserves and could have fallen further behind almost immediately only for their keeper to save a Kirby a spot kick. Ashville leveled midway through the 1st half and 2 goals in a minute just before the break put them in the driving seat at 3-1. Chris Barrow added to the total with 10 minutes remaining and then blasted a penalty over the bar. A Craig Griffiths double and a James Locke strike also counted in a 4-1 success for Ashville. Chester Nomads also found the net 4 times against a Mallaby side unable to muster a reply. Ed Moss was on the mark twice for Nomads and Dale Harris and Kieron Smith also netted. Pierrie Black was another 2 goal man as 3rd placed New Brighton defeated Prescott Cable Reserves 4-1. Paul Howell and Jay Clare also contributed to the total with Chris McGann hitting the consolation. Unbeaten in League contests for some 6 months Mossley Hill Athletic were grateful to James Halligan for netting the games only goal when they entertained Maghull Reserves. There were chances galore as Beb Athletic took on Richmond Raith Rovers but the only time either keeper was beaten was when Dominic Gilchrist netted for Rovers in the 2nd half. Hale returned from their visit to Bronze Social with a 3-1 win under their belts. Andy McIntyre, Paul Hart and Vassili Poza did the damage for Hale with Gary McNaught grabbing Socials consolation.
The only Division 3 fixture to beat the weather saw host side Merseyside Police edge out Mersey Royal 2-1. Tony Hill and Daley Woods obliged for the Police with Ali Major responding for Royal. Youth Division leaders Maghull went nap at home to Runcorn Linnets. Liam Adlen, Nathan Fitzpatrick, Adam Wilkinson, Thomas Jump and Mike Cummins all posted for Maghull while an own goal counted for Linnets. Second placed Hale also earned maximum reward thanks to their 2-0 triumph at battling Widnes Town, Craig Williams and Curtis Ali hit the target for Hale. In the remaining game Millennium had the edge over visitors Mayfield. Their 3-2 success was underpinned by a Thomas Leatherbarrow double with Luke Charlesworth also registering while Jack Shaw bagged a brace for Mayfield.
