Cup tie weekend

Top scorers in the MSC Express West Cheshire League's Shield first round were Capenhurst Villa Res., who breezed to an 8-1 victory over Heswall Res., highlighted by a Matty Vickers hat trick. Further efforts from Brad Bland(2) Matty Hickman, Danny Walker and Harley O'Brien-Williams completed the statistics, with Jordan Chwalko on the mark for the visitors, WRITES ERNIE MCDONALD.

It was celebration time also for Hooton, who accounted for Ellesmere Port Town Res., Will Bulpin(2) Joel Whalley, Ben Smith and Kyle Jones sharing the goals in Saturday's 5-2 success. Joe O'Brien obliged with both consolations for the Port, while consistent performers, Higher Bebington Kelma, chasing a league and cup double, won by the same scoreline against Runcorn Sports Res., Jamie Balderston(2) Kal Herbert(2) and Andy Noonan applying the finishing touches. In another 5-2 result, Ash Jameson and Stephen Abbott netted for West Kirby Res., but it was South Wirral outfit, Groves, who earned a second-round pairing with local rivals, Capenhurst Villa Res., thanks to efforts from Liam Smith(2) Danny Carter, Jordan Finlay and Tom Anderson.

Saturday's Haworth & Gallagher Bowl first round action saw Division Two promotion chasers, Sutton Ath. suffer a double cup heartache inside five days. In midweek, they went down 2-0 at holders Cammell Laird 1907 in the Wirral DFA Senior Cup and on Saturday their Bowl progress was interrupted by Mallaby who posted a 3-0 result, courtesy of efforts from Joe Foster (2) and Ellis Byrne.
The improving Bootle Res., inspired by a Harrison Worden hat trick, romped home 6-2 against Runcorn Sports . Sal Djabi, Jack Hughes and Sam Ashworth also made the scoresheet, with Runcorn hitting back via Max Dwyer and Owen Dursley.

Goals from Danny Mulville, Kyle Henshaw and Nathan Barnes saw Cheshire Lines three goals to the good against South Sefton Borough but with three minutes remaining, the match was abandoned
due to an injury.

A seesaw battle in the Pyke Cup first round between Bootle St. Edmunds and Newton went to extra time after 90 minutes produced a 3-3 stalemate when goals from Bootle's Brad Shearwood, Mark Madden and Jay McShane were negated by replies from the visitors' Thomas Field (2) and Danny Bulayima. Reduced to ten men, Bootle snatched an extra time winner through Phil Grimes.
Efforts from Heswall's Christian Lewis and Ethan Mort were cancelled out by efforts from Vauxhall Motors Res.' Jack Darlington and Jamie Eaton but it was Motors who progressed in the extra time period, after Darlington bagged his second.
Elsewhere, a solitary strike from Rainhill Town's Dave McGrath sealed the fate of Marine U23'S.

Only two League fixtures took place on Saturday, and it was a profitable run-out for Division Three leaders, Aintree Villa Res., who registered their eleventh win of the season and opened up a seven point gap at the top, after a Stephen Andrews treble anchored his side to a 3-0 decision over Helsby Res.

Youth Division leaders, Mossley Hill Ath. went four points clear at the top following a 7-1 victory over fourth placed Vauxhall Motors, whose consolation was accredited to Luke Burns. Mossley's marksmen were Chris Hapi-Fankam (2) Cai Jones, Asher Duncan, Callum Smithwick, Jonathan Liddle and Sam Bowsie.
Foster (4) Rooke (2) Jones (2) Patton (2) and Tomlinson all found the net, as Vauxhall Motors secured their passage to the CCFA Youth Cup second round after they eclipsed Lymm 13-1.
They were joined by Poulton Victoria, who savoured a 3-1 result over Upton but it was an early exit for Victoria Colts, who suffered a 2-1 defeat at Sandbach Utd.
