Congratulation to HMS SULTAN who won the USFL League Championship play-off final beating 12 Rgt RA Thorney A 3 nil.
In Thorney's team manager Dean Hilton-Huish final game in charge, before he moves on, Thorney were out played in the 1st half with Sultan pressing hard and creating all the chances and mid-way through Sultan took the lead from close range. Thorney continued to worked hard and particularly their Captain and man of the Match Bdr Andy ‘Animal’ Reynolds but along with the rest of the team had no chance when Sultan’s striker came in of the left and from outside the box hit a sweet right foot curler into the top corner.
Half-time HMS Sultan 2 – 0 Thorney A
As expected Thorney came out all guns blazing in the 2nd half and for the 1st 20 minutes Sultan couldn't get outside of their own half, it looked only a matter of time before Thorney pull one back but every time they got near the goal their shots were missing the target, being deflected for a corner or a miss-placed pass let them down. But then against the run of play Sultan got the break and a though ball split the Thorney defence and it was striker v keeper to be first to the ball, striker wins and it’s a stone wall penalty, 3 nil to Sultan. Although Thorney continued to try and get one back it looked more likely that Sultan would get one on the break as they were creating the better chances.
Final score HMS Sultan 3 – 0 Thorney A; a well deserved win for for HMS SULTAN
Many thanks to the match officials Referee: Michael Clements, Assistants: Michael Hurdle & Steven McDonald and 4th Official: Andrew Keay
