The USFL has reached its mid season point and the first trophy of the season has been won by HMS Sultan who beat 47 RA Thorney Station in the League Cup Final played at the Victory Stadium HMS Temeraire on 12th Dec 12.

The opening minutes where end to end with both teams having opportunities to score but it was Thorney Station who took the lead mid way through the first half, when they were awarded a penalty following a foul by Suntan’s goal keeper. The game swung Thorney Stations way and they appear in charge but against the run of play 5 minutes before half time Sultan equalised and then began to dominate. Just after Half time Sultan scored again and mid way through the 2nd half they made it 3 – 1; so with 2 goals from LPT Carrie & 1 from AB Hastings the game looked over for Thorney Station. The 4th Official put up the board for 5 minutes of injury time and the fireworks started. Thorney scored from a corner and with 30 seconds left on the clock they equalised to take the game into extra time. Thorney Station dominated the 1st period of extra time and Sultan the 2nd but both teams were looking tired and neither was able to capitalise; at the final whistle the score was 3 – 3 and that was a fair reflection on the game as a whole. So to penalties and Sultan started well opening the scoring and with Thorney Station’s Captain missing their first, Sultan were on top, but Thorney Station’s goal keeper made a great save to bring the Thorney back into the shoot out. Both teams scored their next penalties so with the score at 4 – 3 Thorney needed to score to keep the shoot out going but Sultan were ecstatic as Thorney’s player hit the post and Sultan won the Cup
