MARSHFIELD FC END UP VICTORIOUS IN SECRETARY CUP FINAL
In the Final of the Secretary's KO Cup Final Division Three Marshfield FC overcame Team Nathan in match played at Twerton Park on Tuesday 9 May 2017.
Marshfield won the Secretary’s Cup for the first time since 1999 as they edged past Division Four outfit Team Nathan, watched by a crowd of over 200 spectators.
The Wiltshire side took an 8th minute lead when youngster Ewan Anderson dashed past the Nathan defence and coolly slotted it past the advancing Phil Smith.
Team Nathan levelled on 33 when Gary Jones exploited some hesitant defending, rounded keeper George Brown and tapped into an empty net.
It remained that way until the interval, before the Division Three side regained the lead within 10 minutes of the restart.
Following the award of a free-kick some 20 yards from goal, George Ball stepped up and expertly curled home past the helpless Smith.
Team Nathan pushed for an equaliser, with Ball clearing Richard Lewis’ effort off the line, and Brown producing a stunning save from Tom Rosevear’s piledriving free-kick from distance.
But Adrian Williams’ men defended superbly as a team to keep their lead intact and claim some overdue silverware.
