Peter Raynird reviews the league matches played on 7th November 2015
Division One.
Overton United FC ‘A’ traveled to Brighton Hill bottom of the Division One table to face second from top Hampshire Irons FC. As OUFC Reserves had no fixture their ‘A’ Team was strengthened and won the points with 4-3 win. Nathan Rae was their match winner, coming up with his second goal with six minutes left to play. Rae and Joe Lake shot chances wide early in the game and then in the 22nd minute Reserve team hot shot Syanni Thomas, making his first appearance of the season, headed home a corner from Rae. In the 38th Irons drew level when Craig Hopper finished well following a good ball from Kieran Dent. This was in the 38th minute and Irons remained on top and went 2-1 ahead in the 50th minute through Alex Brown. Irons were caught on the break by Lake and this led to Rae rounding keeper Jack Rickard to level. Overton pressed and a 20 yard shot from another Reserve Teamer Darryl Taylor deflected past Rickard to see them 3-2 up. But Irons drew level again. A free kick taken by Ben Hasking was parried by keeper Ben Pierce and Gavin Curry followed up to net. This was in the 83rd minute and within a minute came the winner. Ben Wootton found Rae with a superb 30 yard pass and he made no mistake with his finish. Irons almost snatched a point in the 90th minute when a long throw from Curry found the head of Dent, but his effort flew just over the bar.
Division Two
Following their amazing 2-1 win against Hampshire Irons in the Peter Raynbird Cup the previous week, AFC Aldermaston FC ‘A’ followed it with a 2-0 win against Basingstoke Athletic FC Reserves in a Division Two match. The goals came first from Kevin Flain with a volley following a Bradley Nicholson cross and Nicholson scoring the second with a chip over the keeper after Athletic had taken an early lead.
