Press Officer Peter Raynbirds Saturday round up for Division 1
The big 8-2 defeat which TwentyTen FC suffered against DJS Telecoms FC on Saturday afternoon will send shock waves through Division One. Danny Stafford’s DJS Telecoms team was felt to be one of the clubs tipped for relegation after suffering two defeats in their opening two league matches. However their opponents, TwentyTen after a good start to their league campaign, are thought to be one of the challengers. So this result was a real shock to many. There were no complaints from the TwentyTen manager ‘Alan Spacagna’, who said after the game “We were outplayed by a better team on the day”. Chris Hobson in the DJS goal had a good save to make in the tenth minute but apart from that it was DJS who were on the attack for most of this game. Lee Neal beat Jack Nicholson with a rocket shot in the 18th minute to open the scoring for DJS, soon after a corner from Paul Dolan was put away by Louis Vickery for the second and Neal netted another to make it three nil. Carl Pearson did manage to pull one back to give TwentyTen some hope of getting back in the game, but they were unable to deal with set pieces and by the break it was 5-1. Lee Neal had completed his hat and new signing Harry Rudge had scored from a penalty kick. DJS showed no signs of letting up in the second half. Ashley Elward netted from another penalty kick and went on to score a further two goals to complete his hat trick. Joe Osborne netted the second for TwentyTen.
It is Sherborne St John FC setting the pace in Division One, after another big win, this week beating Basingstoke Athletic FC 5-0. After losing the newly signed Paul Crow to an injury early in the game, meant that Athletic had to bring on their only substitute Kieran Challis, whom had not really recovered from a broken foot. This soon got worse for Athletic when they conceded a penalty in the 15th minute. Sherborne’s Sachin Rai was fouled and Ibrahim Waheed beat keeper James Lounton with a good finish. Waheed had made it 2-0 by the half time break as he raced clear to score when a long clearance caught out the Athletic defence. Rai hit the bar early in the second half before in the 60th minute Mukum Limbu completed a move stared by Ash Pirie for Sherborne’s third. Sherborne introduced substitute Cobi Judd with 20 minutes to play, and he showed some class by beating three men and shooting past the helpless Lounton. Luke Morgan headed home the fifth from a Judd centre to end the proceedings. Sherborne’s new signing, ex New Inn FC Keeper Darren Gary, had little to do on his debut as Sherborne retained their advantage.
Hook had no problem beating Basingstoke Labour Club FC on Saturday. The final score was 4-1 to Hook. Dan Poulter, the Labour Club Manager was not available for this match, with his deputy Phil Todd taking over. This was the first time that Labour Club had been beaten in their last 15 matches; following on from their successful season in 2014-15. The first half proved to be an even contest, although Hook did finish it a goal up. Sam Gook was awarded his first start for BLC and he forced a good save from keeper Greg Archer early on in the game, but it was Hook whom took the lead in the 25th minute through Andy Parker following an assist by Dave White. It was two minutes into the second half when Hook scored their second. Parker with the corner and Centre Back Jon Noakes with the headed finish. Labour were always in the hunt, and substitute Marik Wisniewski, hit the post with a sweet strike before they did pull a goal back in the 60th. It was their top goal scorer Cameron George with the shot which took a deflection and trickled past Archer. Hook took control of the game for the last ten minutes, Andy Haig converting another cross from Dave White to make it 3-1 and Arron King soon finished BLC off with a late fourth.
Hampshire Irons FC returned from Barlow’s Park with a 2-1 win over Tadley Calleva FC ‘A’. The Tadley manager Bradley Nash had seven players missing from his squad today, including his main scorer Kye Theodore. Tadley fell behind in the 15th minute when a cross from Kieran Dent was meet with a firm header from Tom L’Heureux towards goal, the ball took a deflection past the Tadley keeper on its way into the gaol. In the 20th minute Irons doubled their lead when the Tadley defence were caught flat at the back and allowed Craig Hopper to play the ball through for Charles Henry to beat his marker for pace and slot home. In the 61st minute Dan Walkley bundled in a corner kick to reduce the arrears and Tadley had the better of play for the final twenty, where they hit the post and missed two good chances to level. Tadley’s long throws caused Irons endless problems, but their keeper Jack Rickard performed well, as did their back four including Gavin Curry who made sure that his side retained all three hard earned points by heading a certain equalizer off the line in the dying minutes.
