Somerset opened the scoring in the third minute with a clever flick back across the goal and under Reading keeper Chris Elton from Jamie Lee.
Elton was then called upon to make four very good saves to keep Reading in the game while Chris Ellis headed of his own goal line on twenty minutes as Somerset took the initiative.
However, having weathered the opening storm from, the 25th minute the Rep team started to get more into the game and equalised on 34 minutes. A long Ellis throw was flicked on by Jamie Green for Ashley Baynham to have his shot saved and Green follow to score inside the post.
Green saw his overhead kick from a Ryan Adams cross skim the top of the bar minutes before the break.
Somerset had had the better of the first half and probably felt they should have been leading at the break rather than being 1 -1.
Reading started the second half as they left off from the first but against the run of play Jamie Lee scored his and Somerset?s second by curling the ball over Elton into the top corner from thirty yards on 53 minutes.
After a series of corners and throw ins into the box, Baynham found himself free from a corner and volley home from 8 yards on 64 minutes to again level the scores.
Reading continued to press but from a break away a cool finish by a Somerset striker put them back in front.
A second booking for Casey Green saw Reading down to ten men with twenty minutes remaining.
However, rallying from the bench and a sudden inner strength from the players proved to be the winning formula
Sean Gavagan was immediately introduced for Ali Read and his first touch on 71 minutes was a flick into the path of Green who held off the defender and fired low into the bottom corner from 18 yards to level the scores.
Green quickly completed his man of the match performance with a hat trick on 74 minutes. Another long throw from Ellis from the right flicked on by Green only for the ball to go straight through the penalty area. Baynham reached the ball out on the left and crossed the ball back into the penalty area were Green had risen over his marker and from the tightest of angles found the net.
It was then all hands to the defence with the back four outstanding. In the fifth minute of stoppage time Elton had to make a great save while Ellis threw himself in the way of the ball and stopped a certain goal.
The draw for the second round will be made w/c 27th Sept 09.
