Basingstoke & District League Match Reports from Sunday 7th January, By Tony Spencer.
The Division 1 match between Republic of Chineham and Chineham played on Sunday was a tight, even game with no score at the interval, writes Tony Spencer.
The Sunday League programme was hit hard by the weather, with only two local matches being played, plus a cup game down at Waterlooville. Curiously, a Chineham side was involved in all three games.
It looked as though the Division 1 points would be shared until the 93rd minute, when Republic‘s George Jones fired in the winner from a free kick 30 yards out. Republic of Chineham 1-0 Chineham. Republic are 9 points clear at the top of Division 1,but Oakley have three games in hand.
In Division 2 Overton United romped to a 16-0 victory over Chineham Athletic. Goal scorers were Nathan Rae and Louis McCann with hat-tricks, Kieron Fuller, Scott Winterbourne, Ryan Watts and Gavin Alexander with braces. Matthew Lowe and substitute Luke Skinner with one apiece. Non scorers with assists were Ritchie Budd and Craig Ralph with two each, while Ash Shearing set up 4 goals. Overton United are 4 points clear at the top of Division 2.
In the Hampshire Sunday Junior A Cup Chineham Reserves travelled to Waterlooville to face Denmead, who are top of the Meon Valley Sunday League and unbeaten in 8 matches and lost 4-1.
A prosperous and sporting New Year to all involved in Sunday football this season. With dry and relatively mild weather forecast for the rest of the week, hopefully next Sunday’s fixture list will help catch up on County cups, Andover Presidents Cup and Kelvin Cup fixtures as well as league games.
