Katherine Rayer Cup Final: KGV Worcester 1 Upton Snodsbury 1 after extra-time. Upton Snodsbury won 3-2 on penalties
'A dramatic penalty shoot-out at St Georges Lane last night saw Premier Division Upton Snodsbury lift the Katherine Rayer Cup against their Division One opponents after a tense match that finished 1-1 after extra-time. KGV had already despatched three previous Premier Division opponents on the way to the final and they made the early running with both the post and crossbar coming to Upton's rescue. There was little to choose between the teams with both defences on top. Upton broke the deadlock in the 37th minute when Joe Wood's 30 yard drive found the corner of the net. KGV introduced the lively Dan Polan after the interval who proved a real handful for the Upton defence and he equalised after 55 minutes. Honours remained even for the rest of the match and the destination of the trophy went to the dreaded penalties. Both goalkeepers excelled in this shoot-out, KGV's Jamie Lambert saved two penalties but his counterpart Matt Davies went one better to clinch the trophy for Upton who earlier in the day had seen Arrow 2000 snatch the Premier Division championship and consign therm to the runners-up spot. KGV can be proud of their campaign which also saw them finish second in Division One and they look forward to regular Premier Division football next season.'
