Christmas Eve

There were two games on Christmas Eve this year as we saw action in League One. The games did not disappoint either, with both being very entertaining affairs.

Daten took on AFC Macclesfield at Culceth Sports Club. Neither side were able to come out on top with the game ending 2-2. Daten’s goals came via Adam Campbell and Jack Challinor, whereas Macc picked up theirs via Jack Butterworth and Nathan Jackson.

Grappenhall Sports hosted Lostock Gralam at Grappenhall Sports Village. The game was an impressive showing from both sides, ending 3-3 in an end-to-end affair. The Grey Lambs’ goalscorers were James Dean, Alex Wilson and Myles Wady whilst a goal from Matthew Grice and a Paul Hulmes brace meant that the sides shared the spoils on the day.

27 December

The Premier Division took centre stage on the 27th, with two games taking place. Denton v Cheadle HN and Greenalls PSO v Knutsford were both postponed prior to kick off.

Rick Tindall brought his season goal tally to 30 in Poynton’s 6-0 victory over Eagle Sports. The in-form attacker has been impressing the locals in Poynton all season. Poynton’s other goals came through a Joseph Knight brace and an Arian Kalantari hat-trick.

Congleton Vale took all three points from their home game against Rudheath Social as they won 3-2. The home side took the lead after just 6 minutes through Carl McCurrie. They got a second via Dan Buehler after 13 minutes. Rudheath pulled one back through Stevie Gyurkovits but their hope was shortlived as McCurrie got his second. Anthony Marshall got a consolation on 66 minute but it wasn’t enough.

New Year’s Eve

Denton Town defeated a lacklustre Linotype Cheadle side who squandered several clear-cut chances as the Tameside locals came away with the spoils in this local derby. Town won 2-1 at Cheadle Heath Sports Club, but the result doesn’t change their league position – they sit in ninth – while Linotype Cheadle are seventh.

Poynton beat Rudheath Social 3-1 to move up to fifth, ahead of Congleton Vale and Cheadle Heath. Rick Tindall, Matt Toole and Steven Kirby got the goals for the home side. It really was an impressive performance for Poynton.

Eagle Sports and Styal got the only draw of the day as they tied 1-1. Styal took the lead early on but a Gareth Williams goal pulled Eagle level at Thornton Road.

In League One, Billinge thrashed Egerton 6-1 at home to move within six points within the leaders, Warrington Town Reserves. Danny Hewitt, Gary Kenny and Liam Platt got a goal apiece while Liam Bowden picked up a hat-trick. Golborne Sports also dominated at home as they beat Halebank FC 4-1 at Stone Cross Lane.
