Five goal Sam Spridgeon stole the show, as Go2Day West Cheshire League relegation threatened Division One outfit, Chester Nomads, made progress in the Chester & District Challenge Cup after lowering the flag of FC Farndon. A Brandon Dickinson hat trick was supplemented by further efforts from Kyle Smith, Cal Jones and two own goals, as a rampant Nomads posted a 12-1 result, WRITES ERNIE MCDONALD.
It was celebration time also, for Runcorn Sports, who made further headway in the Runcorn & District FA Challenge Cup, when Reece Dwyer, Dom Bazley, Stephen Rothwell, Kier Fenlon and James O'Connor applied the finishing touches in Saturday's 5-0 eclipse of Runcorn Albion.
This season's Haworth & Gallagher Bowl final will now be contested between Runcorn Sports and South Liverpool Res., who emerged 4-0 victors from their last four clash with West Kirby thanks to efforts from Harvey Billington, Amr Badhawi, Adam Shelton and Simon McClay.
West Kirby's second string also paid the price, after they went down 2-1 at home to Cammell Laird 1907 Res. in their West Cheshire Shield semi-final, despite a goal from Lewis Handford. The visitors sealed the issue with replies from Ben Crossley and Henry Willett.
In the Youth Plate 2nd round, Kian Skinley obliged with both goals for South Liverpool who beat Maghull 2-0, and although Dan Dearing netted for Youth Division leaders, Maghull B, his effort failed to deter title rivals, Athletico Blues, who secured their passage to the LCFA Youth Cup final, after replies from George Murray and Finn McGovern clinched a 2-1 victory.
Saturday's LCFA Junior Cup action proved a bridge too far for Mossley Ath. U23's who had Asher Duncan on the mark but lost 2-1 at former West Cheshire side, Cheshire Lines and it was curtains also for Division Three promotion contenders, FC Kirkby, who capitulated 4-0 at Clay Brow. Elsewhere, it was a similar tale of woe for high flying Division One side Maghull, who were not at their best and suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Admiral Park in the LCFA Challenge Cup.
On the Division One scene, Mossley Hill Ath. went four points clear at the top, when Connor Anderson struck three times and was joined on the scoresheet by Caleb Jones in Saturday's 4-1 decision over basement outfit, Heswall who hit back via Luke Naylor. Third placed FC Bootle, with goals from Tom Ward, Matty McHale and Jacob Jones accounted for Helsby 3-2. The visitors had George Rimmer and John Egerton in reply, while Vauxhall Motors Res. earned a little respite in their bid to avoid relegation, after Sean Moscrop and Kieran Fair obliged in a 2-0 result over Litherland Remyca Res. Newton had Joseph Williams and Paddy Jones on the mark, but slumped 4-2 to efforts from Marshalls' Callum Norris, Jack Ward, Jake Storey and Josh Lavender.
Division Two leaders, Mallaby, opened up a nine point lead at the top, after being given a testing time by Aintree Villa Res. A Tom Black double allied to an opener from Kenny Benal-Mwaliteta assured the leaders of maximum spoils with Matty Wardell netting for the hosts. Greg Biggs found the net for Higher Bebington Kelma but it was South Sefton Borough who profited, Lacey Kwass (2) and Josh Panther replying to inspire a 3-1 triumph.
Bob Johnson bagged all three goals as Capenhurst Villa Res. won 3-2 at Helsby Res. in Division Three, with Gerrard Turkington and Ant Collings finding the net for the home side.
Third placed Youth Division title challengers, Cammell Laird 1907, moved to within two points of the current leaders, when Ted Galer and Jack Gordon netted in a 2-0 win against Mossley Hill Ath. while nearest rivals, AFC Knowsley, courtesy of goals from Elliot Holmes, Dan Donnachie and Bobby Connor beat West Kirby Utd. 3-2 . Lewis Greenhalgh and Dan Osunjimi scored Kirby's consolations. Zac Parker's effort was scant reward for Runcorn Linnets, who were on the receiving end against Neston Nomads, the visitors romping home 5-1 thanks to replies from Jack Coll (2) Louie Whitehead (2) and Nate Jones.
