CARLSBERG WEST CHESHIRE A.F.L. MATCH ROUND UP W/E 8.9.12

Victories over Hale in midweek and at Ellesmere Port on Saturday ensured that Heswall maintained their place at the top of Carlsberg West Cheshire Division 1 complete with a 100% record. Rob Ablewhite, Andy Brown, Gordon Harrison and Richie Foulkes netted in the 4-1 success over Hale while Harrison and Foulkes were joined on Saturday’s score sheet by Mark Jones as they saw off basement boys Ellesmere Port, 3-0. A four goal volley from Karl Burquist, which was supplemented by Robert Doran, helped to ease Marine Reserves into 2nd spot following their 5-1 demolition of Chester Nomads while 3 days earlier a Paul Pearson strike was enough for the Crosby side to account for hosts Maghull. Doubles from Peter Banasko and Tom Craig on Wednesday helped Vauxhall Motors Reserves to see off neighbours Ellesmere Port, 4-2 but the Motormen had to settle for a point at the weekend when a Mark Winslade effort was cancelled out by Southport Trinity’s Danny Ventre. Newton’s topsy tervy season continues and after being on the wrong end of a 6-0 hammering by Cammell Laird Reserves [John Atkinson,3, John Hughes, Lee Atherton, Craig Cairns] they recovered to overcome Maghull, 2-0, courtesy of strikes by Danny Welsh and Liam Smith. A Mike McGraa double spearheaded West Kirby’s 2-0 defeat of Ashville in midweek but although McGraa along with Danny Brookes registered for them on Saturday they failed to wipe out a 3-0 lead built up by a Hale side tasting success for the 1st time this campaign. Brad Williams, Bobby Penningtonv and Chris Piercy were the men on the mark for Hale. Mossley Hill Athletic [Dillon Corrie, Dave Byrne] also claimed their first 3 pointer when getting the better of Southport Trinity, 2-0 on Wednesday and followed up when goals from Ryan Powell, Yusuf Malik and Callum Holmes saw them emerge 3-1 winners at Blacon YC. Earlier in the week a Sam Henry hat trick had featured as Blacon recorded a 3-1 victory of their own at the expense of local rivals Christleton who also returned pointless from Cammell Laird Reserves whose Craig Cairns and John Paul Wheaden obliged in their 2-1 success. After a 0-0 draw with Chester Nomads in midweek, Upton AA took an early lead at Ashville on Saturday courtesy of an Andy Lloyd header but a Jay Clare brace went on to secure maximum return for the hosts.
South Liverpool [Cameron Dalton, Andy Tull, Neil Best, Tom Stewart, Alex Woodstock] head Division 2 thanks to a 5-2 win over Prescot Cables Reserves but they had to be content with a point earlier in the week after sharing 4 goals with Richmond Raith Rovers. On Saturday Rovers [Rob Madine,2, Mike Sullivan] staged a remarkable comeback when, with 15 minutes remaining and down to 10 men, they came from 3 goals down to grab a share of the spoils against Manor Athletic [Andy Kingham,2, Tom Mole]. A Lee Dermody treble steered 2nd placed Heswall Reserves to a 4-2 win over Mersey Royal and Mallaby [Darren Thomas, Jimmy Ashton] remain 3rd as a result of edging out Manor Athletic [Lee Yarlett] 2-1 in a feisty encounter. Ashville Reserves recorded twin 2-1 successes at the expense of West Kirby Reserves and Helsby while Willaston aren’t finding Division 2 life all to their liking and in midweek went down to a 3-2 defeat at Capenhurst Villa [Mike Banks,2, Tom Hockley].
Topping Division 3 are Gateacre whose Jonny McGee claimed a double in Monday’s 3-2 win over fellow new boys Redgate Rovers while Jordan Whelan and Joel Mulhearn joined McGee by netting in Saturday’s 3-1 triumph at Belfry. Dean Brown was a 2 goal man as Christleton Reserves moved into the runners up spot after they edged out Hale Reserves 2-1.
Cameron Chambers and Robert Rowland were on the mark as Bootle Youth shaded their encounter at Vauxhall Motors Youth 2-1 to take an early lead in the Youth Division. On Thursday Vauxhalls made progress in the FA Youth cup by recording a 3-2 win at Salford City.
