WORCESTER LEAGUE ROUND UP 5th and 6th Mar 2011
An injury time strike from Adam Davis gave Worcester Sunday League Division One leaders Coppertops Athletic a hard fought 2-1 victory at Bridge Rangers. In a highly competitive match which saw three players sent off, Luke Yeomans had given Coppertops the lead before Anthony Smith equalised for Bridge. Meanwhile New AFC Barbourne leapfrogged Bridge with a 6-2 victory at Blue Star, Shane Ward and Paul Ashby both bagging a brace. Northwick Vale and HDNL Sports drew 1-1, Matt Harrison on target for Vale with 17 year old Jack Woodward netting his first goal for HDNL.
There was a major shock in the Premier Division where CMB Sports eased their relegation worries with a 4-1 win against reigning champions Arrow 2000. Paul Bennett (2), Jamie Shepherd and Ollie Dyde were on the score sheet for CMB. Mark Owen netted six times and Richard Taylor hit a hat-trick as Martley Spurs thrashed Callow End 11-1. There were doubles for Simon Vaughan of Perrywood who won 4-0 at Crowle and Ashley Millard in Upton Snodsburys 5-1 home win over Droitwich Spa Eagles.
Shooting star of the day was Craig Selby of KGV Worcester who found the net eight times as his team hammered Goodrest Juniors 10-3 in Division 2.
AA Chequers still lead the table, Wayne Lloyd and Adam Beresford on target in their 2-1 success at Wessie. Ben Pearson bagged two as Anchor Falcons beat Old Vigornians 3-0. Malvern Victoria won 2-0 at Cutnall Green in Division 3, Rob Jones grabbing both goals.
In the Saturday Division VBL Sports cruised to a 10-0 victory at Northway. Scott Jones cracked a treble and there were doubles for George Martin, Paul Bennett and Marc Burrow. Veteran GDL Athletic secretary Alan Southwick netted four times and Luke Hemming scored twice in their 7-0 win against Worcester Anchors. There was a brace each for Shane Smith of Hallow who won 4-0 at YM Rangers and Ollie Garfield as Newtown Sports won 5-1 at West Malvern TC.
Red Horse won their Nursing Sunday Junior Cup semi-final with AFC Heenans 3-1, Matthew Staley notching a hat-trick. They will play Perrywood in the final on Sunday 10 April (7.00 p.m.) at St Georges Lane, home of Worcester City F.C. VBL Sports won 5-0 at VFC Keyz in the semi-final of the Minor Cup, Gordie Beauchamp netting twice. In the final on Sunday 17 April, they will meet KGV Worcester, also at St Georges Lane.

For the second year running, two Worcester League clubs will contest the Worcestershire FA Sunday Premier Cup final. Lee Seldon hit a hat-trick as Arrow 2000 secured their place with a 4-1 win at Upton Snodsbury. In the other semi-final goals from Tom Coley and Gary Smith gave Martley Spurs a 2-1 victory at Wolverley. The final will take place at Worcester City F.C. on Sunday 27 March (kick-off 6.00 p.m.)
In the Worcester Sunday League Premier Division, CMB Sports moved away from the relegation places with a creditable 1-1 draw at Perrywood, Ollie Dyde on target for CMB, Simon Vaughan replying for the Wood. AFC Heenans won 4-2 at Droitwich Spa Eagles with the prolific Jamie Insall grabbing another hat-trick.
The eagerly awaited clash at the top of Division One between Coppertops Athletic and New AFC Barbourne ended in a 4-4 draw. Barbourne were 3-0 up after 15 minutes, Paul Ashby scoring twice, but a Dean Spiers brace salvaged a point for the leaders. Meanwhile Toby Attwood netted four times and Dean Taylor twice as Bridge Rangers won 9-4 at St Johns, Derek Saunders bagging two for the Saints. A single strike from Shane Smith moved AFC Mazak into second place as they beat Northwick Vale 1-0. Dave Burston netted twice for HDNL Sports who beat Blue Star 4-0. Nunnery Wood Colts kept their promotion hopes alive, Daniel Banks grabbing the only goal of the game against Colwall St James.
In Division 2 VBL Sports hammered Wessie 8-2, Gordie Beauchamp and George Martin both recording doubles. Paul Jones scored twice for Blackpole Sports who put Anchor Falcons to flight 7-1. Division 3 leaders Inter Express dropped their first points of the season as AFC West Midland held them to a 4-4 draw, Ian Farney bagging two for Inter. Sixteen year old Graham Henman netted four times for Hallow who won 5-1 at Malvern Victoria. AFC Brewers had a narrow 4-3 win against Brunswick, Richie Adams netting twice for Brewers.
West Malvern TC still lead Division 4, Steve Stone cracking a hat-trick in their 4-0 success at Albion. GDL Athletic remain firmly rooted at the foot of the table after losing 5-0 at Berwick. Ian Dixon fired a treble and James Freeman a double.
With Hallow suffering a shock 4-3 defeat at the University of Worcester, the Saturday Division crown looks to be between Powick and VBL Sports. George Martin netted four times to take his tally for the season to 65 as VBL thumped Malvern Town Reserves 9-2. Powick kept their two point lead at the top, Stuart Harvey and Lee Barmby both bagging a brace in their 8-1 stroll at West Malvern TC. Tim Lambeth notched a hat-trick as Malvern Rangers sank Worcester Anchors 12-0.
