Basingstoke & District League Match Reports from Saturday 23rd September, By Peter Raynbird.

Division One

It has not taken favourites Hook long to get back to top spot in Division One, deposing Herriard after beating Bounty United 8-0 at King George V Playing Fields on Saturday. It was Dan Mauridian who shone, by scoring four times. Tom Davies opened the scoring with a header and then a solo run good finish by Dan Mellors was followed by goals from James Westwood from a Davies cross and Mauridian scored his first by the break. Mauridian netted his second early in the second half and then completed his hat trick from a penalty. He then added another before the rout was completed by substitute Mark Pyle, making his début.

The rein of Herriard at the top was short as they were beaten 6-4 by AFC Aldermaston Reserves at home. Sam Weber gave them the lead after nine minutes following a throw from Joe Harris, but the visitors came back when they were awarded a penalty, put away by Lee Wheeler after Liam Belcher was fouled. This was quickly followed by a goal from Reece Barrett from a Michael Porter orner and by the 24th they were 3-1 ahead when Porter found Craig Masterson. Weber scored his second in the 42nd from a Chris Smith assist to reduce the arrears. The Herriard come back continued in the 57th when Harris ran onto a poor back pass and level the scores at 3-3. In the 60th Carl Allen was fouled in the box and netted the penalty to regain the lead and James Porter made it 5-3 before Weber completed his hat trick in the 80th. A pile driver from Ryan Watts from a Barrett cross ensured the points for Aldermaston second string and back into second spot in the table.

After two defeats in their opening matches, Tadley Calleva a are off the mark with a 6-2 win against Winklebury Wizards. A shot by Cameron Sweeney was well saved in the 12th minute, but Peter White put away the rebound for the Tadley lead. In the 16th Wizards drew level through Aaron Barton. Wizards then had Liam Grainger sent off for a foul for stopping a goal scoring opportunity and when down to ten men it was Tadley on top. .In the 29th Jack Jones lobbed the keeper after being put through by Jamie West and in the 37th Jones headed on a corner kick for Michael Abbott to score another and Abbott then took a long pass from Lee Calcott to see Tadley 4-1 up at the break. Wizards came back briefly, a header by Vincent Mundane, following a free kick, but Tadley soon regained control through Sweeney and Gary Hibbs put away a penalty near the end.

Twentyten had a fairly comfortable 4-1 win against Overton United A, winning 4-1 at Preston Candover. They had a great start, when Joe Hill put them two goals ahead by the 15th minute and it became 3-0 in the 44th when Jack Clarke scored. Four minutes into the second half Ben Pearce put Mathew Woods through and pulled it back tot 3-1 and pressing, Kyle Buckland forced a fine save from keeper Harry Nash and then hit a good chance wide for Overton. Twentyten made sure of the points by the 65th when Ryan Lupton took on two men and gave the keeper no chance with his finish.

Division Two

With the leading two clubs, AFC Berg and Sherborne Saints having a week off, Somesay made ground on them with a 5-2 win against Basingstoke Town Colts and are on level points. It was Luke Gore who gave Somesay an early lead, picking up a through ball from Cullen Greenley who then made it 2-0 in the 20th. Joe Hodge made it 3-0 in the 30th minute, but Caius Joseph netted for Colts before half time and then scored again in the 65th when he followed up and put away a free kick by Jack Barnes that had hit the bar and rebounded kindly for him. Pushing up for the equaliser Joseph hit the; post and then against the run of play Somesay scored their fourth. Joseph Sandwell was he scorer, a tap in from the fine pass from Jordon Russell and then Russell went on a sol run to ensure no further comeback.


Two wins in a row for Origin Headley as they defeated Twentyten Reserves 5-1. Luke Ambrose opened the scoring for them in the 15th minute following a cross from Stuart Carr. Twentyten drew level through Jack Hulbert, but Karl Holborough had Origin level by half time from another assist by Carr and went on to complete his hat trick. Bradley Hawkins netted the fifth two minutes from time.

There was plenty of goals at Everest School where Longdog Soldiers defeated Chineham 8-4 to win their first points of the season. They were however trailing in the eighth minute when Shane West scored for Chineham with a diving header from a Tommy Collingridge centre. Terry Dingley equalised, a header from the Joe Oates cross and goals from Max Trodd and a 25 yard strike by Sam Mosdell gave them a 3-1 lead. Tyler Andrews took a pass from Chris Andrews to add another before Chineham pulled a goal back from a penalty, put away by West. Before half time it became 5-2 when Chris Rust scored with a far post header from a Mosdell cross. Graham Jenkins scored from a penalty to pull a goal back for Chineham, but further goals from Dingley and Trodd made it 7-3. Oates headed home the eighth, before West completed his hat trick for the losers.
