With both myself and Dave Lumley away this weekend- myself on family business in Wales after a recent bereavement, and Dave somewhere hopefully sunnier- the weekend rambles are a bit later this week.
Starting in the Everards Brewery Premier Division, and Desford stay top, but dropped points at the weekend, after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Hathern. Mac Parnell gave Desford the lead early on, before Jack McLachlan equalised for Hathern, and a tough, keenly-fought game, no quarter given, followed, neither team though able to break through the other. Magna 73 jumped up to second after a 3-2 win at Aylestone Park Reserves. After a goalless first half, Reegan Lawrence gave the visitors the lead before a brace from Evan Kane put Aylestone 2-1 up, and set to take the points, until the late late show from Magna, Sam Richardson equalising on 87 minutes, then Aidy Kilby scoring the winner in 90+1, Magna second, five points behind Desford.
Third are Anstey Town, who did not play- they are six points behind Desford, but do have two games in hand over them. AFC North Kilworth moved up into fourth, winning 3-2 at home to FC Khalsa. Taylor Sharpe scored either side of the break for NK, as did Kareem Abouraia and Devonte Khan for Khalsa, before Ched Butler stabbed home the winner on 90+4 at the clubhouse end.
At the other end of the table, bottom side Burbage & Huncote earned a point on the road, drawing 1-1 away at Highfield Rangers, Ross Selby for Burbage, Ash Varnham for Rangers. They're two points behind Friar Lane & Epworth, who lost 4-2 at Sileby Town, Finley Jones with a hat-trick and Conner Packwood also scoring for Sileby, who kicked away in the second half, Solomon Agyeman and Xavier Cover for Friar Lane. Ellistown are a point above Friar Lane, their game on Saturday at Thurnby was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. Cottesmore are then two points in front of Ellistown, the Rutland side going down to a 2-0 defeat at Leicester Atletico, Kosisochukwu Ezeja scoring twice in the second half.
